Poor Baby Logan!!
We were released from the hospital on Friday and were told that Logan's bilirubin count was a little high, but nothing to worry about, they told us to take him home and have him sit in front of a window in just his diaper, and make sure he got plenty of fluids and bring him back on Saturday and have his levels checked again. After taking him back to have him retested we dropped the kids off to my parents to go enjoy an hour by ourselves so we could celebrate our anniversary which was on Saturday, as we sat down to eat we get the phone call from the doctor saying that his bilirubin levels were extremely high and that he needed to go back to the hospital and be admitted for his jaundice, after receiving the news I was really upset and started crying in the restaurant so we took our food and left to go pick him up. My wonderful dad gave him a special blessing and we headed back down to the hospital. He was admitted into the pediatric unit where he was placed under special lights to help get rid of the jaundice. In the morning the pediatrician came in and said his levels had gone up again and that they thought that he might have an infection in his bladder that was causing his levels to keep going up. The only way to test for a bladder infection in such a little baby is to go through the stomach and into the bladder with a needle and draw out the urine and have it tested, the test came back negative, so they drew blood to see if they could find out where the infection was. Later that night while I was burping him he started throwing up and it had some dark brown stuff in it, they didn't know what it was so they took it down to the lab to be tested, it came back being blood, so the doctor though that he might have some internal bleeding that was causing him to throw up blood. We took him down to x-ray and had his stomach x-rayed to see if there was any bleeding in his stomach. While we were waiting for the test results to come back from that we got the results of the blood work back, there was a sign of an infection, but they weren't sure where it was at so the doctor decided to go ahead and hook him up to IVs with fluids and start administering antibiotics. My poor little guy being only 4 days old was already poked and prodded more times then I could handle and now they were going to poke him again and hook him up to IVs. The 2 nurses that were working that night both tried to find a vein and with no luck they called down a specialist from the nursery to find a vein to hook the Iv up to. After 30 LONG minutes of standing in the hall crying listening to him scream while they looked for a vein he was finally hooked up to his IV. Early the next morning the test results came back from the x-ray and thankfully there was no internal bleeding, they figured he must have swallowed some blood coming down the birth canal. The pediatrician came in the next morning and said his levels were going down, but that he needed to stay in the hospital for a few more days to get his levels down. Finally on Tuesday morning we were released to finally take baby Logan home and enjoy him. We are so thankful for all those that prayed for him, and that he is finally home where we can hold and love him without monitors and IVs.
